On top of everything else I'm doing, I'm trying to find fabric for an Elizabethan Middle Class costume and Landsknechts (German Mercenary) women's costumes that I am making for, well, ME!!! I work at the Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale. Does anyone know where to find good, relatively reasonably priced heavy weight linen? I can find one of my colors in 6oz/ys but I'm not sure if that's going to be heavy enough and I can only find one of the two colors that I need. Any assistance you can give would be great!
Thanks!!!

Re: Linen question...
Fri, January 11, 2008 - 1:01 PMAn issue with fabrics-store.com is the color selection on the heavier weights is minimal. It makes things very difficult for us apartment dwellers who are not allowed to use community machines for dying.
However, I'm in the process of making my second set of cobalt-blue 7.1oz/yd bloomers and it's going as smoothly as the first set I made in time for last year's Big Bear Faire.

Re: Linen question...
Fri, January 11, 2008 - 6:12 AMYou could buy plain linen and dye it. It takes dye beautifully. I use Ritt and just play with overdying until i get something I like. I saw some handkerchief linen (you'd use that for your undergarments) at a great store in Tucson www.buttonsandbolts.com They do send samples & are reasonable for retail. They also had beautiful cotton voile if you want a truly fine chemise. As I recall they had some heavier linen, but I was not looking for that. PM me on what you're building & maybe I can help more.
